Pumpkin Weight Estimator — Guess It Before You Lift It

Wrap a tape around the widest part, measure the height, and this tool estimates your pumpkin's weight in both kg and pounds — with a fun verdict: mini, party or show-grade giant.

How it works

Two measurements beat guessing at the farm stand

Measure around

Wrap a soft tape around the fattest part of the pumpkin. If you only have a ruler, use a string then measure the string.

Measure tall

Measure from stem tip to the bottom where it sits on the ground. That is the height.

Get the verdict

We model the pumpkin as an ellipsoid, multiply by average pumpkin density, and show kg, lb and a fun rating.

Why an estimator?

Because the farm-stand scale is always busy and the pumpkin always rolls away

Pinterest and Reddit pumpkin threads are full of people who "brought home a giant, it turned out tiny" — or worse, heaved what they thought was a showstopper into the car only to find out it was a medium. Carving pumpkins cost by the pound, and the weight also tells you how long it will stay fresh and how many people it will feed if you make pie. A 30-second tape measure removes the embarrassment and the back strain.

How accurate is this?
Within about 10-15%. We model the pumpkin as an ellipsoid and use an average pumpkin density of 0.6 g per cubic cm, which matches most carving pumpkins.
Why measure circumference instead of diameter?
A tape wrapped around the fattest part is far easier than trying to jam a ruler across a round, ridged pumpkin in a farm stand.
Does the estimate change by pumpkin type?
Pie pumpkins are denser, giants are airier, but for jack-o'-lantern picking this ballpark is exactly what you need before you heft it.
